SENTIR.STUDIO

Sentir.Studio, a world-class recording studio in Sydney located just minutes from both the CBD and the airport, established in 2014, stands as a meticulously crafted and artfully designed analog studio helmed by record producer and mix engineer Murray Lake.

Reflecting Lake’s extensive industry expertise and penchant for design, together with his wife Carla (co-founder and creative director), Sentir (translated from the French expression “to feel”) presents a distinctive immersive recording environment, comprising purpose-built Control and Live rooms. With a commitment to cutting-edge acoustics and premium recording equipment, complemented by elegant Parisian design elements, Sentir fosters a harmonious blend of comfort, style, and limitless sonic exploration.

From initial concept to meticulous detail in acoustic architecture, including structure, isolation, room-specific walnut QRD diffusion, European VPR technology, French Oak Versailles parquet perforated flooring, joinery, wiring, patchbays, and a bespoke Class-A fully discrete Malotki line mixer, every aspect of Sentir was designed, built, and installed by Murray and Carla.

The Control Room is engineered as a dedicated production and mix environment. With 1/48-octave smoothing, it delivers exceptional acoustic precision, achieving a frequency response of ±0.9 dB from 26 Hz to 60 Hz and an RT60 variance of ±0.043 s from 68 Hz to 10 kHz, placing Sentir among the world’s elite studios for acoustic performance.

Lake’s collection of microphones, acoustic and electronic instruments, vintage effects, and outboard equipment, with select pieces dating back to the 1960s, forms the foundation of an exceptionally versatile recording environment.

Choosing his instruments “with love,” Sentir houses a meticulously curated collection of instruments, from vintage synthesisers and drum machines to a Yamaha CP70 piano, Fender Rhodes, a ’62 Ludwig Super Classic, a ’64 Fender Precision Bass, and a ’60 Ampeg B-15. Paired with world-class microphones, vintage outboard, and exceptional conversion, it delivers a level of character found in very few rooms worldwide.

A collection of vintage Teletronix, Urei, DBX, Neve, Manley, Amtec, and SSL compressors; multiple Pultec, GML, Neve, Studer, SSL, and API equalisers and preamps; seven Lexicon reverbs; and ATC 2.1 monitoring collectively support an artist’s full sonic expression.

In essence, Sentir embodies a rare synthesis of luxury, artistic freedom, and sonic excellence, shaped by a genuine love of music and an obsessive attention to detail, setting a new standard in the realm of recording studios worldwide.

MURRAY LAKE

Murray Lake is an Australian mix engineer, record producer and founder of Sentir Studio - a space he designed, built, and operates. He has worked with Anderson .Paak, PARCELS, Michael Bibi, La Femme, The Free Nationals, Theophilus London, Genesis Owusu, Nina Kraviz, Boys Noize, MK, Jonti, Archil & Leon, Touch Sensitive and Freyja Garbett.

Lake began his career DJing at prominent local and international venues. He played the warm-up shows for Detroit techno pioneer Derrick May, played back-to-back with Maceo from De La Soul, and supported Plan B and The Gorillaz during their Sydney shows. He has also DJed private events for Leonardo DiCaprio, Bruno Mars, Paolo Nutini, New Order, Kelly Rowland, and Ed Sheeran. His passion for sound led him to study classical composition at Sydney’s Conservatorium of Music.

In 2016, his remix of Guillaume Teyssier’s “Vortex Disco” was released by the French record label Tigersushi and later featured as the music for agnès b’s Paris Fashion Week show. This momentum led to collaborations with Jamie Lidell, Monika, and the Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra.

A pivotal connection with French DJ and producer Philippe Zdar soon developed into a formative friendship, and in 2018, Lake seized the opportunity to join Zdar in France, immersing himself in the late composer’s and producer’s teachings. Upon returning to Australia, he expanded his record label, Sentir, before embarking on the design and construction of his second studio.

Lake, alongside his wife Carla (co-founder and creative director), brought Sentir Studio to life, a space that embodies his deep expertise and hands-on approach to acoustics, recording, production, and mixing.

For Lake, Sentir is more than a studio - it’s an instrument in itself.
