ABOUT MURRAY LAKE
Murray Lake is an Australian record producer, mix engineer, recording engineer, and the founder of Sentir.Studio - a recording, production and mixing space he designed, built and operates in Sydney.
More than just a studio, Sentir is a reflection of Murray’s taste, workflow and philosophy. Every room, microphone, instrument, synth, drum machine, compressor, EQ, preamp, reverb and effect has been chosen with obsessive care to serve the way he records, produces and mixes.
When someone walks into Sentir, they are not stepping into a commercial facility. They are stepping into the physical expression of Murray’s taste, philosophy and pursuit of sound.
Built over more than a decade, Sentir represents a lifelong commitment to sound. Designed around Murray’s approach to recording and mixing, it has evolved into a highly curated creative environment.
At Sentir, Murray has worked with Anderson .Paak, Parcels, Michael Bibi, The Free Nationals, La Femme, Boys Noize, Nina Kraviz, Jonti, Genesis Owusu, Justin Martin, MK, Freddie Gibbs, Theophilus London and Archil & Leon.
Originally beginning as a DJ before moving into recording and production, Murray studied classical composition at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. More than 20 years of DJing has shaped the way he hears and feels music.
In 2018, Murray spent time in Paris working alongside Philippe Zdar, one of the most respected and influential producers and engineers of his generation - an experience that left a lasting impact on Murray’s creative process and studio philosophy. His work today continues to draw inspiration from Zdar’s approach to record-making.
Today, Murray continues to refine both his craft and the environment in which he works. Sentir remains his life’s work - a studio shaped by years of listening, experimentation and dedication, built to give artists an environment where creativity, performance and sound can exist at their highest level. For Murray, Sentir is an instrument in itself.
ABOUT SENTIR STUDIO
Founded in 2014 by Murray and Carla Lake, Sentir Studio is a recording, production and mixing space in Sydney, created around the way they believe records should be made.
Sentir is built for artists, producers and labels who still believe records should sound like people made them.
Purpose-built Control and Live Rooms support every stage of record-making, from writing and production through to recording, mixing and final delivery.
From the earliest concepts through to the finest details, Murray and Carla designed and built virtually every aspect of the studio themselves. Acoustic design, room construction, isolation, walnut QRD diffusion and a bespoke Class-A fully discrete Malotki line mixer all form part of a studio that has evolved through years of listening, refinement and hands-on development.
More than a collection of rooms and equipment, Sentir is an instrument in itself.
The Control Room was designed as a dedicated production and mix environment, with acoustic performance at the centre of its design. Using 1/48-octave smoothing measurements, the room achieves a frequency response of ±0.9 dB from 26 Hz to 60 Hz and an RT60 variance of ±0.043 seconds from 68 Hz to 10 kHz. It is a monitoring environment designed to reveal what’s really happening in a record, allowing creative and technical decisions to be made with confidence and without second-guessing.
The Live Room provides a complementary recording environment, while Sentir’s setup allows full multitracking across the entire studio. Drums, percussion, acoustic instruments and vocals can be recorded in the Live Room at the same time as synthesisers, drum machines, guitars, bass, piano and Rhodes in the Control Room, allowing the studio to move effortlessly between production, recording and mixing.
Instruments, microphones and outboard equipment remain permanently connected, allowing ideas to be captured quickly and momentum to remain uninterrupted. This workflow defines Murray’s approach to record-making.
A space built to support creativity, performance and record-making at every stage of the process.
A studio designed by people who love making records, for people who love making records.
